Seven bridges and a painter

Flowers on barges, a mint tower and the view everyone photographs – the canal ring on foot.

Difficulty
Easy
The canal ring was dug in the seventeenth century and is now a World Heritage Site. Behind the narrow gabled houses lay the merchants' warehouses, and almost every house still has a hook at the top for hoisting goods. The tour is short and flat. You have to work out what a market floats on, read the name on a statue and count bridges.

Good to know

The whole route is outdoors and can be walked at any time. Flat, with a few small bridges. Watch out for cyclists.
