For four hundred years German merchants ran the trade of Bergen from the wooden houses along the harbour. They traded grain for dried fish, lived by strict rules and were not allowed to marry.
On this tour you walk along the quay from the market square to Bergenhus fortress. You have to search for carved figures on the house fronts, count towers and read the buildings the way the Hansa merchants did.
Good to know
The whole route is outdoors and can be walked at any time. The alleys between the houses at Bryggen have uneven wooden floors and can be slippery in the rain. Bring a raincoat – this is Bergen.
