Akershus Fortress has guarded Oslo since the Middle Ages. A new town grew up around it after the fire of 1624, and today the city hall, the peace centre and old shipyards sit side by side along the harbour.
The route runs from the old quarter, up through the fortress and along the water to Tjuvholmen. Along the way you meet a king who pointed out a city, a master thief and a peace prize.
