HistoryThe road of the emperors
From the Colosseum to the Capitol – decipher the inscriptions and find the she-wolf who started it all.

Between the Colosseum and the Capitoline Hill lies the centre of the old Roman Empire. You walk along the imperial forums without needing a ticket: everything on this route can be seen from the street.
The puzzles are about reading the city the way the Romans did – arches, columns, maps and letters carved in marble.
Good to know
No tickets needed; every stop is seen from the street. There is little shade along Via dei Fori Imperiali, so bring water in summer. The last stop is at the top of a long, gentle staircase.
Starting point
The Arch of Constantine, beside the Colosseum
