Stockholm, Sunday 10 August 1628. The royal warship Vasa lies ready below the castle, with 64 guns and several hundred gilded figures. This afternoon she sails for the first time. Wives and children are allowed along for the first stretch.
Margareta is married to one of the boatswains. A few weeks ago she saw something on the quay that she cannot get out of her head, and today she walks from the shipyard out across the islets to find someone who will listen. You walk in her footsteps – today, but with her diary in your hand. At every stop you have to find something that stands there now, to keep hold of the time. Each stop gives a letter, and in the end the word she tried to say.
Margareta and the diary are made up. The ship, the test on the quay, the admiral and the sinking are real.
Good to know
Walk it in daylight – the puzzles are read off buildings, ships and sculptures. Flat and easy, with a short climb to the citadel at the end. Bring two phones if you can: stop 2 is split in two.
